Hakea clavata, also known as Coastal Hakea is an Australian native, ‘miniature flowering’ Protea species endemic to rocky out crops on the South West coast of Australia. This plant thrives in drought but also tolerates humidity, frost, and regular water as long as the soil is free draining. This plant has plump succulent leaves with a sharp tip, and will produce intricate spherical flowers with spokes that segment to various colors as they age to gradients of crimson & cream.
Overall, this is a relatively slow growing shrub that, with age, can reach 2m x 2m. Our nursery has produced several Bonsai specimens with this plant, finding that it flowers & responds well to formative pruning.
