Native to the Coastal Rainforests from Central Coast of NSW to far north Queensland. The Illawarra Flame Tree is a small to medium sized tree growing to 12m tall and 6m wide. The tree loses its leaves before it flowers in October to November. The flowers are red and bell shaped. From seed, the Illawarra Flame Tree will start to flower in 5 to 8 years. It is featured in the song ‘Flame Tree’ by Cold Chisel. This tree is drought tolerant, as well as light frost tolerant.

Care: Illawarra Flame Trees need protection from frost when they are young. Water them well for the first 3 months in the ground. Mulch around the tree, but make sure mulch is not touching the stem.
